Common Orthodontic Problems
Recognizing the signs and understanding your treatment options
Bite and Alignment Issues Are More Common Than You Think
Many people live with orthodontic problems for years without realizing how much they affect their oral health, comfort, and confidence. Misaligned teeth and jaw issues can contribute to difficulty chewing, uneven wear, jaw pain, and even speech problems.
At Lefort Orthodontics, Dr. Lefort diagnoses and treats the full range of orthodontic issues for patients of all ages. Understanding your specific problem is the first step toward finding the right solution.

Crowding
Not enough space for teeth to fit properly. Teeth overlap, rotate, or get pushed forward. Harder to brush, increasing risk of cavities and gum disease.
Spacing
Gaps between teeth from missing teeth, small teeth, or a jaw too large for the teeth. Can affect bite function and allow food to become trapped.
Overbite (Deep Bite)
Upper front teeth overlap the lower teeth too much vertically. Can cause lower teeth to bite into the roof of the mouth and excessive front tooth wear.
Underbite
Lower teeth and jaw sit in front of upper teeth. Affects chewing, speech, and facial appearance. Often related to jaw growth discrepancies.
Crossbite
One or more upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth. Can cause uneven jaw growth, asymmetric wear, and jaw shifting. Best treated early in children.
Open Bite
Front teeth do not touch when back teeth are closed. Makes biting into foods difficult. Sometimes related to habits like thumb sucking.
