• Hawley retainers contain a plastic body that use wires and clasps. This type of retainer can cover the roof of your mouth to retain your upper arch or lay along the tongue-side of your teeth to retain your lower arch.
• Clear retainers are made of clear plastic and are designed to fit snugly over your teeth. Since they are clear, they are more discreet than a Hawley retainer.
• Fixed retainers, also known as permanent or bonded retainers, are permanently attached to the back of your teeth to prevent movement. This kind of retainer can only be removed by a dental professional.
